How To: v14.1.G.2.257 update for Sony Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra

Sony has started releasing ROM update for Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1. This update is based on v14.1.G.2.257 base and injects different kinds of performance tweaks in both the devices. With this update, Sony has manly focused on improving the stability and UI of respective phones. They have updated different parts in both the phones (there are some similar improvements too). Xperia Z1 is enriched with better camera tweaks that provide an amazing social camera experience with smart nature all over. In the other case (for Z Ultra), they have updated the touch interface with better tweaks.

Similar features that are added in both the smartphones are:
• Brighter and bolder display with proper re-calibration
• More fluidity is added
• Email sync, downloading speed is improved because of streamlined exchange connection
• Battery can be used for more hours now

Features for Xperia Z Ultra

As said above, this update mainly focuses on improving the touch interface. It includes better sensitivity with easy typing, touching, swapping and all. All in all you are going to have nice improved sensitivity sensation on your smartphone now. Remaining features are discussed above (in common features part).

Features for Xperia Z1

Z1 is updated on terms of camera apps/performance mainly. The entire camera capturing algorithm is replaced with a better set/protocol. There are improvements in Smart Social Camera features. Features like Burst Mode, AR Effect, Panorama (sweep) feature are added to this platform.

After having it live on your Z1, you will see one additional feature Superior Auto in SSCC app. This feature enhances the automation degree in camera world. You will love all these features a lot.

How to apply this update?

As usual, Sony will release this update in dual modes. First one is regular OTA (Over the Air) channel and the other will be through Sony PC Companion. OTA will cover various regions in different slots of time. It might take few months to cover all the global regions. However Companion on the other hand will provide a manual way to install the new firmware any time (it will too take some time). Till now no official confirmation about coverage of regions is disclosed by Sony.

Talking about India then we can hope this update to get live somewhere during October end or early November. For now Indian customers haven’t received any kind of OTA or Sony PC Companion notification regarding the update. We will update you whenever this update will hit India (through OTA as well as through manual method).
