Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy GIO

ADVERTISMENTS

Cyanogen Mod 11 team has finally released the most awaited Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM for Samsung Galaxy GIO. This firmware is developed for GIO modelled S5660 only. If you own GIO with some different model name then please don’t go any further as you will not be able to apply this firmware on your smartphone. I said it one of the most awaited update because CM team has released Android’s latest iteration for first non-flagship Samsung model. Till now they had come up with KitKat for devices like Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 etc (for which Samsung may officially release KitKat). But for the very first time we are seeing KitKat for a device that may or may not receive official KitKat ever. All in all it is a much appreciated effort from CM team and is a must have ROM upgrade for all GIO users who loves to update their smartphone with latest features and environment.

As of now there is no ETA about when Samsung will release Android KitKat for Galaxy GIO (whether it will release or not even) so it is the best option to all KK users who want to use and test it on their GIO smartphone. Also Cyanogen Mod is a big name in Custom ROM world. They are known for releasing most stable and safe ROMs in the entire industry. So it is like a win-win situation for Galaxy GIO user.

How To

1. Follow these pre-requisites.
2. Download KK ROM and GApps to your computer.
3. Take USB cable and move KK ROM and GApps to SD card of GIO smartphone.
4. Now disconnect the USB cable.
5. Boot GIO to Recovery (instructions are listed below).
6. Follow these steps.

Galaxy GIO Recovery Mode Boot

Recovery Mode is a mode which can be used for installing such third party apps on your smartphone. In order to boot to R-Mode, turn OFF your GIO. Now press Vol. UP + Home keys and then press the Power Key. Maintain this hold until your smartphone is booted to recovery mode.

I know it might appear to be a complex task (especially for those who are trying for the very first time). You can simplify it further with apps like ROM Manager and QuickBoot (available on Play Store) that can help you enter to Recovery Mode through automated ways. So this is how you can update your Galaxy GIO with latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM.
