[How To] Cyanogen Mod Slimkat based Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Sony Xperia SP

ADVERTISMENTS

SONY Xperia SP has received KitKat gift from custom ROM developers. I am talking about Cyanogen Mod Slimkat team which has developed a CM based Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM for Xperia SP smartphone. It is a great deal for all the SP users as it might take years for Sony to launch official KitKat update for Xperia SP model. Talking about the phone then it was launched last year with a 4.6 inches display that was operated by Android 4.1 Jellybean OS. In the mean time we have seen some other custom ROM upgrades for this device but for users who haven’t tried any of them, it will be a great treat as switching from Android 4.1 Jellybean to KitKat directly will let them experience a complete new world with lot of betterments.

Usually in order to apply custom ROM on smartphones you need to root them first. Rooting voids the official warranty which can be a serious issue in critical situations. But the ROM which I am going to discuss here is free from all such risks. You can try and install it on your unblocked Sony Xperia SP model also. Having KitKat on any Android device is like driving a sports car when everyone is busy with general ones. It is embedded with all the root level KitKat features like new status bar, wireless printing, fast transitions etc. In a nutshell this upgrade will compliment your Sony smartphone in every possible way. It will give you the feel of using a Nexus 5 at its peak.

Follow these steps:

1. Follow these basic pre-requisites. These pre-requisites are highly recommended if you are trying some custom level operation on rooted phone. Here you don’t need the help of rooting but I will still advise you to go with these pre-requisites.
2. Now download Firmware and GApps packages to your computer.
3. Download ROM Manager App from Play Store.
4. Install it and select Recovery Booting. Connect your smartphone to computer with USB cable.
5. Now follow these instructions carefully.

After following these instructions, simply reboot your smartphone and head over to Settings>>About Phone menu. There you should notice a change in Firmware section (Android 4.4.2 KitKat should be there). If the process is successful then you will sense the change from first reboot even. Please let me know if you need help on any segment.
